CHAPTER ONE
Camille Andrews had rarely left Blake Coleman's side in the four month's had been in the hospital, because of multiply gunshot wounds. She'd taken a leave of absence from her job with the CIA. He'd risked his life in order to save hers, resulting in him being shot three times. Blake had a bullet wound in his left shoulder, one in his lower right side and one in his right thigh. The bullet he'd taken in his thigh had entered awkwardly, causing it to break the bone and damage the surrounding muscle.
Blake had lost consciousness due to the amount of blood he'd lost on the way to the hospital. Upon arrival they'd rushed him into surgery, to repair all the damage the bullets had caused. Following surgery he'd slipped into a coma for five weeks. One week after awakening from his coma Blake had insisted on beginning his physical therapy to strengthen his injured leg.
He was not the easiest of patient's and he gave the hospital staff a hard time, more often than not but the female staff members seem to love him, even when he was grouchy. They always went out of their way to pamper him. Cam didn't like that one bit, a fact she kept to herself. But the male staff members weren't enjoying Blake's company as much. He'd scared off three physical therapist in as many days and he'd, had at least five and a half weeks of therapy to go.
Blake's eagerness to get back on his feet and return to work had caused his continuously sour mood. With everyone refusing to work with him Cam had volunteered to help him with his therapy, since she seemed to be the only one he couldn't intimidate or charm into doing whatever he wanted her to do.
Cam pretended not to be affected by Blake, but the truth was she'd practically fallen head over heels in lust with the man from the moment she'd laid eyes on him. Her brother Thai had introduced her to Blake about four years ago. She'd been visiting Thai at his upscale club, Club Thai-Land, located in the Buckhead area of Georgia just outside Atlanta. Blake had arrived along with three more of Thai's fine looking friends.
Her brother Thai was a fairly good looking guy with his mahogany skin tone, dark brown eyes, and clean shaven head. He stood at about six two with a well developed physique and French Creole accent which he’d inherited from spend so much time with their grandmother. Her brother is quite the ladies man.
There was Kenji Fujimoto, a Japanese-American with his long black hair usually pulled back, into a ponytail. He had dark brown eyes with high cheekbones, and deeply tanned skin, standing at about six feet two, with a body that was lean and fit.
Next there was Prescott Hawk, a Native-American also with long black hair that usually hangs loose around his broad shoulders. His whiskey colored eye’s, sparkled when he smiled, revealing his even, and white teeth. His six feet four inch well toned frame was cover by his smooth reddish-brown skin-tone.
Then there was Alex Grayson a Hispanic hottie with walnut colored skin, short curly brown hair and gorgeous hazel eyes. Standing at about six feet five, with a trim physique that made anything he wore look darn good. The only problem with him was he never dated the same woman twice. Yeah he loved the ladies he just wasn’t in love with any of them.
Any of these guys could turn a girls head.
But it was Blake that had caught her attention and held it until this day. From his short, blond spiked hair style and sexy sky blue eyes to his six feet six thickly muscled frame.
Cam thought his straight narrow nose, strong jaw line and cleft chin made him extremely handsome. Not to mention his evenly tanned skin, now a bit paler due to his lack of exposure to the sun because of his stay in the hospital. She observed him as he lay in his hospital bed exhausted from physical therapy.
Cam had been pushing Blake to work hard at his therapy, for the last five weeks. So he'd be able to go home as soon as the doctors thought he was ready. When Blake is able to go home she would feel better about leaving his side and returning to her job. But until then she'd help him get back on his feet.
Blake lay in his hospital bed, pretending to be asleep, but that was impossible whenever Cam was in the room. He could sense her presence and smell her scent, a fragrance, unique to only her. Her fragrance overpowered his senses, a feeling he'd gotten use to in the past four years. From the first moment he'd met Camille she'd invaded his dreams, causing him many restless nights. The fact that she was the younger sister of one of his best friend’s, didn’t seem to affect his feelings.
Blake had wanted her ever since he'd laid eyes on her. In his dreams, Cam's flawlessly smooth mocha skin had beckoned for his touch and for his caress it. In his dreams, her soft light brown eyes were always filled with desire. Her silky black, shoulder length hair would be in tousled, disarray from him making wild, passionate love to her. Blake's dreams were so realistic at times he could almost feel her long, shapely legs wrapped tightly around his trim waist. Cam was the most temptingly, desirable woman he'd met in his thirty two years of living.
He'd had the opportunity to work with Cam on several occasions, even though the CIA was not a law enforcement agency. Cam had been recruited from the FBI, because of her excellent communication, negotiation and counterintelligence skills. Not to mention she was one hell of a fighter. Blake was a member of Five Nations International, a secret team of undercover Interpol agents. Their job was to take down high powered crime organizations in varies countries including the US.
They worked closely with many Government agencies all over the world. The main purpose of their team was to serve and protect the innocent, to uphold the law and to put a stop to any and all criminal activity that threatened the well being of any and all citizens no matter what country they happen to be in. Since the CIA was the first line of defense, working with them allowed their team to go and accomplish what others could not.
Cam was good at her job and he was proud to have her watch his back anytime. Blake heard the hospital room door open, just before hearing Kat's voice. Kat was Kenji's wife and newest member of their team. Their marriage had been arranged when they were both just kids. Kat was of mixed heritage, her father was Japanese and her mother had been Africa-American. Her caramel skin-tone and golden, almond shaped eye’s made her quite the beauty. With long black, silky straight, waist length hair and a petite frame she was a fighting dynamo. Being skilled in several forms of martial arts, she was a force to reckon with.
“I brought you something to eat.” He heard Kat say to Cam.
“Thanks, Kat.” Cam replied.
“No, problem girl, I know how much you hate hospital food.” Kat said laughing.
Blake heard Cam laugh with her. What a sexy laugh she had he thought. This had become a routine with the two women over the six weeks that he'd been out of his coma. It had no doubt been the same routine during the five weeks he was in his coma.
“So how is he doing?” Kat asked.
“Girl, you know how pigheaded and stubborn he can be. He puts up a fight every single day and he's really starting to get on my nerves.” Cam complained.
Kat snickered. “Now you know I don't believe that for one minute. If he was getting on your nerves that bad, you wouldn't still be camped out here, keeping him company and helping him with his therapy.”
Cam rolled her eyes at Kat's comment. “Who asked you, anyway little Miss. Know-it-all.”
Kat threw up her hands, “I'm just saying, besides girl you know you love me.”
Again Cam rolled her eyes at Kat. “Whatever! Anyway, where is that fine, husband of yours?”
“Ken, is with Thai, Alex and Prescott they just received the intelligence report on the person that got away on the night Blake was shot. Everyone has been working pretty much non-stop since that night.” Kat said taking a seat in the empty chair beside Cam.
“So who is he and what does he have to do with all this?” Cam asked as she filled her mouth with some of the food Kat had brought for her.
The smell of the food had Blake's stomach growling something fierce. He would love to have a few bites, but he also wanted to hear more of what Kat had to say about the person that had gotten away that night. Blake was certain that person had a lot to do with the ambush, up at the cabin. They didn't talk about work when he was awake, knowing how anxious he was to get back to work and out of this hospital.
Blake had enjoyed every minute he'd spent with Cam, even when she was being bossy and pushy. But he'd rather be working, out there stopping criminals, preferably with Cam at his side. They made a great team. Blake's stomach chose that moment to react once again to the delightful smell of the meal Kat had brought for Cam.
Both women laughed at the loud grumbles his stomach was making.
“You might as well open your eyes, Blake. I know you're awake.” Cam said to him.
He opened his eyes as he push himself up to a reclined position. “How did you know I was awake?”
“Well, beside your stomach growling like a hungry bear, your breathing changed when you got a whiff of the food Kat brought for me.” Cam said pointing her fork at him.
Blake inhaled deeply, he asked. “Is that shrimp gumbo?”
“It sure is, and it is delicious.” Cam said smiling at him.
He narrowed his at her. “You know, it's rude not to share.”
“It's also rude, pretending to be asleep so that you can eavesdrop on another person’s conversation, nosy.” Cam replied.
“Yeah, yeah, are you going to give me a taste? Or am I going to have to get up out of this bed and come take some?” Blake asked as his eyes darkened with raw sexual desire and one of his eyebrows shot up to his hairline. He was gazing at her as if she was freshly grilled steak and he was ready to gobble her up.
That wiped the smile right off her lips. Cam's eyes became tiny slits as she glared at him. “You better be talking about this shrimp gumbo.”
“What else would I be talking about?” He asked attempting to look innocent.
Cam rose slowly from her chair and walked over to his hospital bed, placing the container on the meal tray before pulling it closer to him.
“Here, there's only one fork, if you still want some. And don't even think about eating it all, I wasn't done with...What are you laughing about?” She asked Kat who was laughing uncontrollably.
“You two are something else; y’all never pass up a chance to go at each other. I swear you two are worst than a grumpy old couple, that's been together way too long.” Kat said as she continued to laugh.
“That's not funny.” Cam said through clenched teeth.
“Yes it is. Anyway I need to get outta here I'll see the two of you tomorrow.” Kat said as she headed for the door.
“Wait you didn't tell me about the report.” Cam replied.
“I'll fill both of you in, when I came by tomorrow. Sayounara kiddies, you two play nice now.” Kat said as she breezed out of the room, laughing.
Blake shoveled several forks of food into his mouth before looking at Cam, as she folded her arms just under her full breasts.
“What? There's enough for both of us.” Blake said.
“Really? Because as much foods as you're shovel down, I'm just wondering if there's going to be any left for me.”
“Well I guess you better come over here and join me. Did Kat happen to bring us something to drink?”
“Us? No she didn't bring us something to drink she did however bring me some iced tea.”
“Do you mind if I have a sip of your iced tea?” He said wearing a pouty expression.
Cam rolled her eyes at his pitiful expression before handing him the drink container. “Here, that's the only straw, but you can take the lid off if you want.”
Blake gazed at Cam as he raised the straw to his lips and, took several swallows. When he was finished taking sips of the iced tea he gazed at her before replying. “I don't have a problem sharing something that your lips have been on. The question is, do you?”
“No, I just didn't think you'd want to put your lips on something that my mouth has been on.”
“You have no idea how wrong you are about that.” Blake replied as he held her gaze.
When Cam felt tingling sensations dancing along her spine from the intensity of his gaze, she looked away. Taking a deep breath she released it slowly in an attempt to calm her raging nerves.
Blake's doctor, choose that moment to enter the hospital room. Cam moved away from the bed, feeling relieved for the interruption.
“Good evening, Dr. Evans it's nice to see you again.” Cam said giving the doctor a bright smile.
“It's always a pleasure to see you Camille.” The doctor replied with a wide, toothy grin as he touched her arm.
Blake didn't like the flirty exchange between the two of them one bit. Dr. Hands was barking up the wrong tree. He seemed way too comfortable putting his paws on his woman and
right in front of him at that. The six feet one doctor wasn't bad looking, with his deep, brown skinned complexion, trim athletic frame and magnetic smile. But he could forget it if he thought for one minute he was going to have a chance with Cam. Blake would break both his legs before he let that happen.
“What's the deal doc did you come to see me or did you come to flirt with Cam?” He asked, sounding more than a little irritated.
“Don't be rude Blake. Dr. Evans was just being polite.”
Blake snorted. “Well Dr. Feel-good can be polite and keep his hands to himself.”
Cam stared at Blake through narrowed eyes.
Dr. Evans glanced curiously at the two for a moment. “I'm sorry. I didn't realize that the two of you are involved.”
A stunned expression crossed Cam's face. “Actually we....” Before she could finish what she was about to say Blake interrupted.
“Actually, we were busy, so did you need something, Doc?”
Cam began to speaking again. “We....”
And again Blake interrupted. “We would like to be alone, so spit it out.” He said in an intimidating tone.
Dr. Evans cleared his throat, before explaining the reason for his visit. “I just wanted to tell you, that you've made such progress, and seem to be doing so well that I can sign off on releasing you. But you'll need someone at home to help you out for while, because you'll have to take it easy for a bit longer.”
“That sounds good to me. When can I leave?”
“Tomorrow morning, if I know you have someone to stay with you.” Dr. Evans said as his gaze shifted towards Cam and back to Blake.
Blake's gaze clashed with Cam's in a staring match, as neither said a word for several moments. Answering the doctor his gaze never left hers.
“That shouldn't be a problem doc, but let me get back to you in the morning.”
Dr. Evans nodded as he replied. “That's fine I'll see you in the morning. You both have a nice night.” He walked out the door without, so much as a glance in Cam's direction.
“You jerk!” Cam said in an unpleasant tone.
CHAPTER TWO
Blake knew he was in for it by the look on Cam's face. She looked mad as hell, like she was ready to knock his head off. Hopefully it wasn't because she was interested in Dr. Do-right. Because if she was she might as well forget it, she wouldn't be dating Dr. Evans or any other guy for that matter.
“What are you so mad about?” He asked, sipping from the cup of iced tea.
“You purposely let Dr. Evans think that we...we...” She said motioning between Blake and herself. “You know what you let him think.”
“So what, he seemed to be getting a little to familiar with you, if you ask me.”
“Nobody asked you. He is a very nice guy and thanks to you I'm sure there's no chance he'll ask me out. Are you happy now?” She asked folding her arms over her front.
“Yes I am, you should be thanking me. He really isn't your type.”
“How would you know what me type is?” She said dropping to the chair beside his bed.
“Dating him would be as much fun as watching water boil. You need a guy that is as exciting as you are. A guy that can handle the fire burning within you and not get consumed by it, and able to stroke it to life making it to burn red hot.”
“Oh please do you know how hard it is for me to get a date. Between Thai's meddling, Ken and Kat's interrogating, Alex threatening to destroy my dates with cyber viruses, not to mention the death stares from Prescott. But you, you are the worst, letting people think that we're involved and intimidating them. I can't stay single forever. She paused for a second to take a breath, before continuing.
“How would you feel if I intimidated some of the touchy, feely, little nurses that come in here flirting with you several times a day?” Cam asked angrily.
“What are you talking about, woman? Those nurses are just doing their job.” Blake replied calmly. He could almost see steam coming from her ears she was so annoyed with him right now.
“Really, I wasn't aware that the redhead trick, in the tight scrubs, job was running her skinny little fingers through your hair and glide her hands over your chest multiple times. That must be a new technique.”
Blake sat straight up, to look over at Cam. “I know you're not talking about the redhead nurse, with the implants large enough for their own zip code. The bony, big eyed one with the
Octopus, arms.”
Cam tried hard to keep a smirk from taking over her features. She didn't want to think about the joy she felt inside that Blake wasn't interested in the redhead nurse. When Cam nodded, Blake replied.
“For your information that pushy, piranha is not my type. As a matter of fact not one nurse in this place is my type. There's only one person I'm interested in and when it's time she'll know it too.”
