Cast of Characters from Book 1:
Joshua St. James: Supreme Alpha. Main character. Black hair and dark brown eyes that turn bright red when he shifts. After inheriting his parent’s pharmaceutical company, Josh finds out that he is actually a werewolf and an Alpha at that. This means he’s at the top of the food chain, with heightened senses and physical strength.
Mia: Omega. Josh’s love interest. Mia is Josh’s Executive Assistant and acts as his rock while he figures out his new life. Long blonde hair and green eyes that turn bright blue when she shifts. Mia is super smart and can hold her own, and she doesn’t let the fact she’s an Omega let people think she’s weak.
Emily: Beta. Emily was a part of the pack attacking Josh’s business. Shoulder-length dark red hair and light blue eyes that turn bright yellow when she shifts. After Drake left her for dead, she abandoned his pack and decided to help Josh in the fight against her former Alpha.
Matt: Human. Josh’s best friend. Matt and Josh were often mistaken for brothers, and it wasn’t a far-off assumption. Matt also has black hair, which is super curly, and blue eyes. He returns from traveling abroad (most recently Thailand) so he can be there for Josh and is ready to support him in any way he can. Not a werewolf but was informed about werewolves by Josh.
Drake: Alpha. The villain and rival of Josh. Dark brown hair slicked back from his wide face. He had silver grills and wore thick silver chains. Drake was against everything Josh and Lunar Corp. stands for and would stop at nothing to make sure the company shuts down. So, Josh took him down first.
Victor Montgomery: Beta. Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Lunar Corp. Tall and thin with long gray hair and gray eyes. Victor is like Josh’s coach while he settles into his role as CEO.
Benjamin Collins: Beta. Treasurer and Josh’s business rival. Collins is in his twenties and was after the CEO position before Josh’s parents died. He’s constantly sneering behind his square glasses and has dark oily hair and pasty skin.
Lexi Peterson: Beta. Board Secretary. Mid-thirties with short ginger hair and bright blue eyes.
Susan O’Malley: Beta. Vice-Chairperson and right-hand woman to Victor. Late fifties and a stoic mother figure to the younger members of the board. Thin eyebrows, short black bob, and black eyes.
Roland: Beta. The designated personal driver for Josh. Bald and almost always wearing black glasses and a black suit. He’s always on call and ready to take Josh wherever he needs to go, and he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty.
Ali: Human. The receptionist at Lunar Corp. She has chocolate brown hair cut in a short bob and deep mahogany skin. She’s oblivious to the true nature of Lunar Corp.
Dean: Human. Bartender at Josie’s and an old friend of Josh and Matt. Scruffy-looking guy with a salt-and-pepper beard and thick black eyebrows. Chocolate brown eyes and always wearing a flannel.
Luke: Beta. One of Drake’s former pack members that gets taken in by Josh. Twenty-year-old kid with blond spiky hair and black tips. Soft brown eyes and a timid disposition.
Amy: Beta. Luke’s sister. Mid-twenties with a short platinum blonde inverted bob and the same brown eyes as her brother. She also joins Josh’s pack after he killed Drake.
Finn: Beta. Another member of Drake’s former pack and now part of Josh’s. Mid-thirties, tall, and muscular with dark skin. He has dark brown eyes and a bald head, and he is pretty stoic.
Klaus: Beta. Another new member of Josh’s pack. Tall, lanky guy in his mid-twenties with a jet-black buzzcut and dark blue eyes. He’s quite timid and on high-alert 24/7.
Katie: Beta. New member of Josh’s pack, formerly part of Drake’s. An ex-veteran in her late twenties with long ginger hair, blue eyes, and a hooked nose. Her mannerisms scream military training.
Chapter One
My blood ran cold as I read the message written on the side of the delivery truck over and over again.
We’re coming.
Who was coming? And what for? Was it the remnants of Drake’s pack who wanted revenge for their fallen Alpha?
Drake had been a pain in my ass. He’d been the Alpha attacking my business, Lunar Corp, which makes pharmaceuticals for werewolves to help them in their day-to-day lives-- me being one of them-- and I’d finally put an end to his pillaging and destruction in the abandoned subway tunnel by City Hall.
But now it would appear the wolves we’d let go were back for vengeance.
We’d come up with a plan to sacrifice a delivery truck so we could cut the numbers of Drake’s pack down. I figured once I killed the Alpha of the pack, the others would be free to do what they wanted. And considering the number of Betas and Omegas who were forced into Drake’s pack, I didn’t think that was so much of a bad idea.
Emily, a barista from a coffee shop, had been one of those Betas, and she’d shown me the true extent of Drake’s wrath, which was exactly why I needed to put an end to him.
The only problem now was that those who had joined him willingly were pissed, and they were evidently out for blood.
My head was running at a thousand miles an hour, and I could feel my heart thumping in my chest like it was about to explode.
I could barely hear Mia-- my mate, and my Omega-- call out my name, and it was only when I felt her warm palm resting on my bare back that I managed to calm down a little.
“Josh, what’s going on?” she asked in a panicked tone.
I turned my head to look at her, and something inside of me lurched seeing her so worried. Her forest-green eyes were wide, and her perfectly plucked eyebrows were furrowed. Her swollen, red lips from last night were in a pout as she rubbed soothing circles on my back, and if I hadn’t gotten this message, I knew I’d be spending all day in this bed with her.
But there was no time. Whoever had sent this was after us, and I needed to do everything in my newfound power as CEO and Supreme Alpha to stop it. It felt like only yesterday that I’d just started this job after my parents died, but I’d had enough time to settle into this role and really start to understand my duty.
Not to mention I’d started to get a really good grasp on my powers.
“Victor sent me this,” I said, and I showed her the image the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Lunar Corp. had sent me moments ago.
Victor was sort of like my coach as I started to settle into life at Lunar Corp., and he’d been showing me the ropes of business life. There were a few other people on my Board who’d been a help, too. Lexi, the Board Secretary, and Susan, who was the Vice-Chairperson. Collins, on the other hand, who was the Treasurer of the company, had proven to be a huge pain in my ass.
I was glad it was Victor who’d sent me the message and not him, that’s for sure.
“Shit…” my mate trailed off as her eyes scanned across the image.
The jagged claw lines ripped into the metal of the truck made a shiver run down my spine. Whoever had done this was pissed, and it only made it more evident that it was the members of Drake’s pack who’d chosen to follow him willingly.
“Who do you think did this?” Mia asked as she looked away from the phone and up at me with those wide green eyes. “We killed the Alpha… the rest of the pack doesn’t have anyone to lead them anymore.”
“I’ve got an idea,” I said as I gritted my teeth.
There was one Beta back in the subway station who’d been the most… stand-offish. Emily had him in a headlock toward the end, and I remember him shoving her arms away from him and staring me down without an ounce of fear. I should have known he’d been trouble, but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I wanted to give all of them the benefit of the doubt. There was no way of knowing who’d joined Drake’s pack willingly and not willingly, and I wasn’t going to massacre everyone in that place just for the hell of it.
“We need to get to Lunar Corp. and have a meeting with the board,” I said as I put my phone on the nightstand and stood up from the king-sized bed in my parents’ penthouse.
Mia had spent the night, and I’d officially made her my mate by biting her. Of course something came up to ruin what should have been a blissful day with my mate.
I rushed to the bathroom and quickly splashed my face with cold water to wake myself up a little more. I felt like I was in a daze, and that none of this was actually real. I guess I’d have to get used to things like this happening now that I was a goddamn werewolf CEO.
I could hear Mia scramble to find her clothes, but I didn’t want her wearing what she had fought in yesterday. Especially when there was a whole closet full of my mom’s clothes just sitting there.
“Mia!” I called out over the sound of the running tap. “Wear some of my mom’s stuff!”
“Josh--”
“If you’re about to protest, I swear to god,” I chuckled. “Just pick something out. For me, okay?”
“Is that an order, Alpha?” the blonde asked as she appeared in the doorway in nothing but her undergarments, and her arms were crossed over her chest.
My hands froze in front of my face with the water still cupped as I looked at her breasts that were practically bursting out of her white lace bra. Mia cocked an eyebrow with a knowing smirk as I looked her up and down, and she walked away slowly to give me a great view of her ass.
God, was I lucky.
I forced myself to focus and splashed my face one last time before I walked out of the bathroom and headed for the wardrobe to look for some of my dad’s clothing to wear. Mia was picking out one of my mom’s dresses that was hung up on a hanger, and I brushed past her to get to my dad’s suits.
“Not an order,” I said as I purposefully avoided looking at Mia’s ass again. “But… a very gentle request.”
“Well, just because I love you,” the Omega teased and started to slip on a beautiful dark green dress that stopped just above her knees.
It was modest and simple, but that was just the way my mom liked it.
“Could you help me zip it up?” Mia asked as she turned around.
I could see the gold necklace glimmering around her neck as she lifted her hair up, and I smiled as I zipped up her dress for her. The necklace was a gift I’d bought for her when we first started working together to say thank you for all the help she’d given me. Honestly, if I didn’t have Mia, I didn’t think I would have been able to handle everything I’d already been through.
She was more than just my mate. She was my anchor. She was the person who always had my back. Usually, in the wolf world, Omegas were treated as lesser people purely because they were seen as weak. They were the breeders and a trophy for Alphas to have and use whenever they wanted. But I’d never treat her like that. How could I when she’d saved my ass more times than I can count?
The blonde let her hair down, and she smoothed out the fabric with her hands before she turned around and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.
“I’m gonna freshen up a little while you get dressed,” she said. “Don’t be too long.”
“I won’t,” I said with a grin and slapped her ass as she walked away.
The Omega gasped but smirked over her shoulder at me before she headed into the bathroom.
I turned back to my dad’s array of suits that ranged from black to blue, and I grabbed a random one. It was a dark, navy-blue, so I picked out a light blue shirt to pair with it and found the matching pants.
I grabbed a random pair of underwear and quickly got dressed in the smart-looking outfit, and I slipped on a pair of black oxfords to complete the look. I managed to find the silver half-moon-shaped cufflinks that had been on the suit I’d worn yesterday, and I poked them through the holes in my sleeves.
Lastly, I kept the top button of my shirt undone and opted out of a tie for today’s look. We didn’t have much time to figure all of this shit out, so I didn’t really mind about how smart I looked today. There were much bigger things I’d have to worry about when we got to Lunar Corp.
My hair wasn’t too unruly, so I just ran my fingers through it a few times to smooth it down a little. By the time I was fully dressed, Mia was done freshening up in the bathroom.
Every time she entered the room, I could smell her sweet scent, but it wasn’t as intense as it had been when I first met her. Mia had said it was a mate thing, and when an Alpha bites an Omega, it makes their scent less appealing to other wolves.
It still drove me absolutely insane, though.
“We look good,” my girlfriend said with a happy grin.
“We look like my parents,” I snorted.
“And is that a bad thing?” she teased as she walked over to me and grabbed my hand. “Come on, handsome. Let’s go put Victor out of his misery. I’m sure he and the Board are chewing the tables worrying about this.”
“Yeah, let’s go,” I said with a deep sigh and started to lead the way out of my penthouse.
I locked the door behind me, and we swiftly entered the elevator to take us down to the ground floor. Then I beelined for my red Aston Martin that I’d dubbed my baby because of how precious she was to me. I’d never had a car like her, and I felt like a goddamn king driving it.
I opened the door for Mia and helped her slide into the seat, and then I made my way over to the driver’s seat and started the car.
“Ever the gentlemen,” the Omega teased.
“Damn right.” I smirked as I pressed the ignition button.
The engine purred as I started it, and I ran my hands over the steering wheel. It still didn’t make sense to me that this was my car, and as I looked back at the huge towering apartment complex and saw the windows at the very top of the building, it didn’t make sense this was my home now, either.
“Joshhhh,” Mia drawled. “Are you ready to go?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah.” I shook my head and started to pull out of the complex. “Sorry, I guess I’m still not used to this being my reality.”
“Hey, if it was any other day, I would have happily sat in this parking lot with you while you enjoyed the view of your car,” the blonde joked. “But… duty calls.”
“That it does,” I sighed as I drove out onto the street and started heading downtown. “I’ll need to update the pack once we figure this all out.”
I now had five Betas who’d wanted to join me after I’d… dissolved Drake’s pack. It might seem like a small number, but I was happy to take in anyone. Before the fight in the subway station, I’d only had Mia. And I knew how important it was for an Alpha to have a pack, even if I was new to all of this.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” Mia nodded. “Whoever wrote that message might target them if they think they’re traitors to Drake’s pack.”
My blood ran cold at the thought. If it was the male Beta from before, then it wouldn’t surprise me if he was just as insidious as Drake. Anyone who joined that asshole willingly had to be.
I put my foot on the gas and pushed the car as fast as I could through the busy streets of New York without getting a ticket.
We arrived at the huge tower that was Lunar Corp. pretty quickly considering the early morning traffic, and I pulled into the underground parking lot swiftly. Then I helped Mia get out of the car, and we took the elevator straight up to the eightieth floor.
My leg jittered a little on the ride up, and Mia grabbed my hand in reassurance.
“Don’t worry, Josh,” she said softly. “We’ll figure this out.”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “Yeah, I know we will.”
I had a great team behind me, and no matter how daunting that text message was, Mia was right. We would figure this out. And we’d do it together.
I squeezed her hand a little tighter to show her that I really was alright and it was just a little bit of general anxiety I couldn’t shake until we’d talked this out, and by the time I’d composed myself, the elevator doors dinged open.
Mia and I swiftly walked through the long hallway until we reached the double oak doors leading into the meeting room. This whole floor was dedicated to just that, and after a rather hairy fight with Drake, it had been partially destroyed.
As I pushed open the heavy oak doors, I was greeted with the serious faces of my board members. Victor sat at the head of the table, and he made direct eye contact with me as we stepped into the room, which had clearly been renovated since the attack.
The window Drake used to jump out of like a maniac had been replaced, and all of the paintings, decorations, and the destroyed meeting table had been replaced, too.
“Joshua,” the Chairman said with pursed lips. “Sit down. We have a lot to discuss.”
Victor was an older gentleman, and it showed on his face. His tanned skin was speckled with age spots, and his hair was completely gray. He had it pulled back in his usual low ponytail, and his eyes looked particularly tired this morning. They were almost the same color as his hair, and they stared right through me as I walked further into the room.
“Yeah, we do,” I said as I took a seat opposite him, and I used my foot to pull out the chair beside me for Mia. “When did you receive the image?”
“The delivery driver sent it to me moments before I passed it onto you,” Victor said. “Luckily, he and the guard we posted with him weren’t injured during the attack and managed to make it out unscathed. The truck, however…”
“Is totaled,” I said with a sigh. “As expected.”
