  CHAPTER ONE

“Bryan?” I ask him, swatting an annoying bug out of my face. “Have you ever fought a Giant before?”

I know I could have used Air Magic to create a shield around me, but I had hoped that my new skin would stop them. It seems, however, that while my new skin stops them from biting me, they still love to land on me and be annoying fucks.

Bryan turns around from up ahead and nods slightly.

“I fought one about ten years ago,” he replies with a sour expression.

  “It didn’t go well?”

  He shakes his head sadly.

“Not for three of my Brothers in the Order. We were given a job to take one down. Little did we know just how powerful they were. We read all the reports the Order had about them, but apparently, whoever wrote those reports never fought one. We ended up losing three good men. And we never took down the Giant.”

“How many were you?” I ask him curiously.

“We were a group of twenty strong. We even had a Mage with us. He was the first to lose his life after firing a Fireball spell at the Giant.”

“Let me guess,” Sara says with a snort from up front. She had turned around at his comment. “He found out the hard way that some Giants are Fire resistant?”

“Pretty much,” Bryan answers with another sour expression. “He got splattered so flat by the Giant’s club that we couldn’t bury him.”

  I wince. “Ouch.”

  “So, what happened afterward?”

“We all ran away like pussies,” he says with a shrug. “It wasn’t a proud moment. I was young. About 27 years old? After that battle, I always prepare for whatever I will be fighting with information from personal knowledge, not second-hand bullshit. That bullshit intel we received from our supposed expert got people killed.”

“So you never killed that Giant?” Leeha asks him.

He shakes his head. “We waited days for it to leave the area so we could check for any survivors. Once it finally left we went back, and well, it seems that Giants eat their kill, even if it’s a human.”

Leeha shrugs at that. “Meat is meat, I guess. A monster doesn’t care what race it’s from. Hell, many monsters will eat their own kind without reservation.”

“That’s why they’re monsters,” Sara adds.

“True,” I tell her. “But, as we found out with Bo,” I motion to him, “not all monsters are true monsters.”

Everyone looks at Bo, who blushes under all the scrutiny.

“I’m sorry, Bo, I haven’t known you long enough. But,” Sara says, nodding at him, “if Alex says you’re not a monster, I will trust him.”

  “Thank you, Mistress Sara.”

“Whoa,” Sara says, stopping in place abruptly and looking at Bo. “No need for this Mistress stuff. Do you call Leeha, Tia, and Bridget, Mistress?”

He shakes his head and frowns. “No. But only because I was told not to.”

“Then, take it from me. I’m like them. Just Sara will be fine.”

  “Very well,” he says, bowing.

She lifts an eyebrow and looks at me. “You trained him to do that?”

“Shit, no,” I tell her with a laugh. “He stayed back with a friend who taught him how to speak Prithgarian. But he’s also been learning English.”

  “With the Dwarves?”

“Nope, a Mountain Colossus had been teaching him Prithgarian, but also some Mountain Colossi. We are now teaching him English, and he’s taking to it pretty damn fast. It must be a racial thing, or I will eat crow.”

Sara’s mouth opens and closes, and she puts a hand to her head.

“All right. That’s another question for another time. You seriously stayed with a Colossus?” she asks Bo quickly.

“Yes, I did,” he tells her with a smile, thankfully not showing his teeth.

“Damn. All right. That’s a story I need to hear about later.”

He opens his mouth as if to answer her, but suddenly Bridget appears next to me, causing me to jump.

“Ah!” I cry out in surprise.

She stands there grinning at me but out of the blue, she starts falling over sideways. I reach out quickly to grab her.

  “You ok?”

“Yeah,” she says with a scowl of annoyance, but I notice that she has tired lines around her eyes. They even look puffy from lack of sleep. “Sorry. It took a lot of power to return. I was able to deliver the two boys their stones. And my gods, you would be so damn proud of them!” she beams.

“Really? They have been doing that well?”

Bridget goes to answer me, but is interrupted by Ezza, who says quickly, “We have company, Master.”

I turn to her instantly. “From where?”

She turns and points up ahead, in the direction we had been travelling.

  “Is it something big?”

She nods quickly and opens her mouth, but before she can say anything else, there’s a loud crash of trees breaking apart, and suddenly a large something appears. I thought that Maka and Balrus were huge, but this thing? It’s at least twice as tall, and even twice as wide. It’s naked, which is why I can tell it’s a male, and it’s ugly as fuck. It has skin that looks pockmarked, and hair growing in patches all over its body and it’s body is a off white color.

As I look at it, a notification appears over its head.

  Frost Giant.

“What the hell? It’s a Frost Giant?” I blurt out.

Tia looks at me in shock. “Did you just say Frost Giant?”

  “Yes. Why?”

“Shit,” she swears. “Avoid it touching you. It can freeze you.”

  “Scatter!” I shout quickly.

The Frost Giant lifts its weapon, which is just a piece of tree with a large knot at the top, and bellows loudly, smashing its weapon into the ground and causing a small crater to appear. I can see spittle fly all over the place. Its teeth are as bad as what I first saw on Balrus, except there were more of them.

“Crap, I’m more worried about its club,” Leeha says, but she has scattered at my shout.

I bring up Fire Bullets and send them swiftly at the Frost Giant.

You have used the spell Fire Bullets. You have used 10 points of power.

“I bring up six Fire Bullets, three on each side, and send them swiftly at the Frost Giant.”

You have hit a Frost Giant for 2 points of damage.

You have hit a Frost Giant for 2 points of damage.

You have hit a Frost Giant for 0 points of damage.

You have hit a Frost Giant for 1 point of damage.

You have hit a Frost Giant for 5 points of damage.

You have hit a Frost Giant for 1 point of damage.

The bullets barely hurt the Frost Giant at all, but since I was the only one who had attacked it with a spell, I, of course, got its aggro, and it comes toward me, slamming its club against the ground in rage.

“Shit! It’s immune to Fire spells. Or they’re not doing much damage!” I cry out.

Suddenly, Leeha lifts her hand and there are four Water Swords around her, which fly off with a streak and hit the Frost Giant. The Giant roars in pain.

“Water Magic works!” she shouts out triumphantly.

But then her cry changes to one of irritation, as the Frost Giant turns away from me and slams the club down towards her.

  Thank God my Elvish

beauty is agile, as she barely gets out of the way of the fast-moving weapon. Shit, this thing is much faster than Balrus was. So, it’s bigger and faster. Just great. At least it’s alone, I think, but then I get a shock as I hear another roar behind it.

I look over, and wouldn’t you know it? Just my luck. There’s a second one there. A notification pops up over its head.

  Frost Giant.

This one is a female. How can I tell? Because it’s fucking naked as well, and it’s not pretty. She looks like a hag, with long disheveled hair matted with mud and sticks.

She rushes into the scene, and I notice that she doesn’t have a club. But she’s coming right for me, with her hands outstretched as if to grab me.

“No, not having that,” I say quickly, and as she reaches to grab me, I throw myself backward away from her reach.

I’m not fast enough though, as suddenly I feel her large hand wrap around me.

“Alex!” I hear multiple throats cry out in horror.

The female Frost Giant holds me up and cries in victory, and I can feel freezing cold coming through her hand. But it’s short-lived as I think Earth, Earth Spikes, and I imagine them coming up from the ground and slamming into her enormous feet, which are the size of fucking cars.

You have used the spell Earth Spike. You have used 10 points of power.

You have caused a Frost Giant to take 28 points of damage.

You have caused a Frost Giant to take 34 points of damage.

The female Frost Giant screams in pain, dropping me as she grabs at her feet.

Suddenly I’m falling towards the ground, and since she had me aloft, I fall a good 40 feet! I land hard, but thankfully my new body can deal with it. After all, I’ve jumped from much higher.

I’m not about to wait and see if there is any retaliation, so as soon as I hit the ground, I roll away.

That turns out to be a good thing, as the other Frost Giant, who I thought was going after the others, had instead come back to help the female by slamming down his club exactly where I had been laying. If I had not thrown myself sideways, I would be a flat spot in the ground.

The male suddenly growls and puts a hand to his back. I look over and see that Tia had thrown a large Fireball spell at it. Unfortunately, I can tell it’s more a cry of annoyance than pain.

“Fuck!” she cries out in frustration.

“Fire won’t work,” I yell at her. “They seem to be immune to it. Makes sense, since they are Frost Giants. So, you need to fight using another Magic as a weapon.”

“What kind of weapon do you think I have that can hurt these large fuckers!” she cries out. “I’m not Bridget. I can’t use multiple versions of Magic.”

Suddenly a grin appears on her face.

Without warning, she’s gone, and in her place is a very large black Dragon.

She roars out at the two Frost Giants. The female looks up from examining her feet, where the blood is leaking out from the damage my Earth Spikes did. The male, whose club falls from his limp hand, stares up and up at Tia.

Tia’s head rushes forward, and before the male Frost Giant can react, her massive jaws wrap around his enormous head, and I hear a crunch.

You have killed a Frost Giant.

  “Yes!” Leeha cries out.

I hear a gagging noise, and looking over, I see that Tia, in her massive Dragon form, is hunched over and is, well, throwing up.

“Oh gods!” she cries out in disgust. “Oh gods, the ta…” she starts but again makes gagging noises and heaves once more.

Leeha turns to me with a disgusted look on her face. “I guess they taste gross. I’m assuming that she’s out for the count, and she’s ours,” she says, pointing to the female Frost Giant, who is staring at Tia with anger.

“Well, we’d better get her attention quickly, or she will go after Tia,” I point out, as Tia continues to retch behind us.

“Bridget, any ideas?” Leeha asks her.

Bridget glares at the massive female Frost Giant with a thoughtful look, but then growls and shakes her head.

  “Nothing comes to mind. Alex?”

I think about it and finally say, “Hmm. She’s seems to have some partial immunity to Fire, and as a Frost Giant, I’m assuming she’s got that same partial immunity to cold spells. What about Mind?”

“I’m sure it’s too dumb to be affected by a Mind spell,” Leeha snorts.

“Well, let’s try this then,” I say. “My Fire spell still did some damage. So maybe if I augment it with Air?”

“Oh?” Bridget says curiously. “Like how?”

“Plasma?” I say, and the word comes out in English.

She gets a blank look on her face, but then her visage lights up with a massive grin. “Oh my gods! Is that a thing? Never mind,” she says quickly. “You wouldn’t say it unless it was. Damn! Command me, oh my Captain.” She frowns and looks at me strangely. “I want to see that film one day.”

“Context?” I ask her with a smile.

“Yes, and sometimes it pops up in my head, and it’s annoying!” she growls.

One thing that that my God did was install something in Bridget that gave her a sort of knowledge base. But it was more contextual in nature. It allows her to know things, but without the experience she needs for it to make sense. She has been learning about my world because at times I’ll say a word, and that information will pop up in her head. Sometimes she thinks that what my world created or came up with was total bullshit. But she has learned that once she gets the context for it, it becomes clearer.

I look at the female Frost Giant, who seems to be struggling between going after Tia, who is still throwing up, and us, the smaller targets.

Apparently, we win the roll of the dice, yay us, as she suddenly roars and comes running at us.

  CHAPTER TWO

“Bryan, I need you to distract it. Just don’t get hit!” I tell him swiftly. “Bo, can you help him?”

“I can, Alex,” Bo says eagerly.

“On it,” Bryan says, taking his massive sword from behind him and bringing his shield up as well. He slams his sword against his shield, causing the Frost Giant to turn toward him as if she is offended by the noise.

I wonder if that’s a Magic he has? Causing aggro?

Bridget must realize what I’m thinking, as she shakes her head and tells me, “No. He has no Magic for that. It’s just that most monsters hate loud noises.”

“Ah,” I say, nodding. Makes sense.

I look to see what Bo is doing, but he’s gone. Hearing a roar of pain, I look over at the Frost Giant and notice that she has something on her back. That something appears to be a small, tiny person. Of course, they’re not actually tiny, they just seem to be when compared to the massive size of the Frost Giant. Looking closer, I see that it’s Bo, who’s perched on the Frost Giant’s neck and is stabbing down with the small dagger I had given him.

I am so shocked that I stare instead of getting my spell ready.

  Leeha slaps me. “Spell! Quick!”

“Right,” I say, shaking my head. “Make sure Bo is good.”

I then turn to the spell in mind.

“Fire. Air. I want to create a very hot Fire Arrow made of plasma and I want Air to superheat the Fire Arrow and fire it off.”

I say the command in English, causing it to be a Spell Command, and then I cross my fingers, hoping it works. I cry in joy when I get a notification.

You have used a Spell command. You have used 1000 points of power.

Suddenly, with a blaze of light that leaves streaks in my vision, a single new Fire Arrow, replacing the six I would typically get, flies off and hits the Frost Giant in the chest. But, it being made of Plasma, it punches right through that Frost Giant’s chest, leaving a hole right between her massive naked breasts.
