I shrugged. “Maybe. But I’m taking it as progress.”
“You would.”
“You love that I would.”
He rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like “insufferable.” But he didn’t walk away. Didn’t snap. Just kept pace beside me, that invisible thread between us pulling tighter, stronger.
And I counted that as a win.
